Many people have laptops these days and one of the sad facts is that laptops are a premium target for theft. To kick this off I want you to know that this is not in fact a review, more something that I have found out (a review will come later) and wanted to let fellow Australians know where they purchase Absolute’s Computrace from.
Absolute’s Computrace comes in several different flavours, this includes ComputraceOne and ComputracePlus (more targeted to corporate users) as well as Computrace LoJack for Laptops which is targeted to the home user. Either way companies such as Dell are embedding this laptop tracking software into their systems so that in the event of a system being stolen, they can be traced and hopefully recovered.
For quite some time, I have been attempting to find somewhere in Australia that will sell Computrace to me (in *ANY* flavour) so that I could put it on my laptop. As I have just purchased a new laptop I once again went in search of someone that would be willing to sell Computrace to the Australian personal market (as opposed to the business or corporate customers). For me this will have two benefits, not only can I track my laptop if it is stolen, but I can also remotely delete any sensitive or personal data (which for me is a big plus).
After a lot of searching, and sending out emails to a variety of companies in Australia I received an email back from Murray at Sense of Security (contact details below) who was extremely prompt and professional and is in the process of getting me up and running with ComputracePlus. For those of you in Australia, although this is the corporate product I have yet to find somewhere that sells the Computrace LoJack for Laptops Premium version in Australia which I believe is essentially the same product for the home user.
At the time of writing Computrace Plus cost me $209AUD (inc. GST) for a three year service contract.

I hope this helps some other Australians to finally be able to purchase the Computrace products for their laptops. As a side note, I am in no way affiliated with Sense of Security, I am just one happy chap that managed to find a company that sells Computrace in Australia.

Although the idea for painstaking reviews was realised less than a fortnight ago, the cogs have already begun turning and work has started on the first review. Before I give you details of that however, I have a favour to ask.
I have put together a survey to gather a few ideas in regards to what people are looking for from online reviews and what they dislike in online reviews. I have decided to take this approach because I would like this site to be user oriented, looking at the products and services that you are most likely to be looking for and to find out what sort of things you want to know.
The survey is completely anonymous and will take you less than 3 minutes, if you are interested you can access the survey here. If you know anyone that reads reviews of products online regularly (or even someone that generally does not) please feel free to share the link with them so that I can get more feedback and find out what sort of audience I will need to be targeting.
The First Review
From the preliminary survey results I selected the first review to be on the SmugMug PhotoSharing Service and I have already begun the work. There is currently no ETA however it will be completed within 14 days at the latest, I am however hoping that it will be far sooner. If you would like you can subscribe via RSS or via email if you would like to know as soon as the post is up.
Painstaking Reviews… Just another review site?
By · CommentsFor a long time I have wanted to be able to blog about something that had a purpose, something that would tap into one of my skills and assisting others in some way.
After many hours in deep thought I have decided that the best way that I can do this is by sharing my knowledge about products and services that are available on the internet. In a world where you never know what is around the corner, or what might be coming at you like a freight train, being armed with the knowledge related to a particular product, service or general industry (in the case of comparative reviews) can be invaluable in assisting you to make better purchasing decisions, especially online.
My aim will be to help you separate the good from the bad… and the bad from the downright ugly!
A wise person once said “The only way to write, is to write what you know”, therefore I have decided that the initial products and services I will review, are those that I already use (or have used previously) in my day to day life.
In order to support this, and to assist in preparing financially to review products and services that I do not use regularly, I will be supporting any reviews (where possible) with affiliate advertising. As per my site disclaimer, the fact that the links in reviews may be affiliate links will have no reflect whatsoever on the content of the posts. If I find a product or service has fatal flaws, I will be sharing that information without hesitation. The reviews will be honest and as accurate and complete as I can possibly make them.
Once I get the site off the ground, I will also be accepting suggestions as to what products or services you may want reviewed, however this will take some time until I find my “Reviewing Mojo” so to speak.
So welcome, keep your eyes peeled for what will be coming in the near future.
Stuart
